What exactly has the president of another country done to take your rights away?

Why are all these women marching against Trump, anyway?

Please stop for a second and consider this:

Women might have the same “rights” on paper, but statistically they get paid less, they fall victim to more sexual abuse than men, are more likely to be in abusive situations domestically, are often talked down to, interrupted and derided in the workplace — all for being female.

You might not be a deplorable misogynist (I hope) but how many other borderline dickheads will look at Trump’s behaviour and think “Well, gee, if the PRESIDENT thinks it’s A-OKAY, then I’m gonna go out there and grab me some of that sweet sweet pussy!”

Of course, someone has written a far more eloquent response to all the detractors — male and female — than I. Really worth a read.

Derailing the conversation to say “why aren’t you protesting human rights violations in Iran or Saudi Arabia” is not constructive. Imagine if you broke your arm and went to hospital and they said “yeah that’s great and all but for fuck’s sake, why are you being so fucking selfish when we have this other dude here who has a brain tumour? Fuck you — stop trying to take up our time with your bullshit. “

Social issues don’t sit in a Top Trumps deck — you don’t “win” by having it the worst — can you see how idiotic that race to the bottom would be?

Even if you don’t necessarily understand why women are marching in solidarity with the march in the USA, accept that they’re doing it and their actions basically don’t affect you. Nobody is coming after you with pitchforks. Nobody is coming after your livelihood.

On the other hand, Trump is about to set a precedent, being in charge of, whether you like it or not, a global superpower, of reducing women’s access to affordable and unbiased reproductive health services and abortion. He is DIRECTLY impacting women’s bodily autonomy.

As an aside: nobody can force you to donate organs. Even after you’re DEAD. Yet in many places in the USA, women are not allowed access to abortions because even though it’s their body, they can’t make decisions about it.

Women in many US states have fewer rights than a fucking CORPSE. How is that in any way okay?

The problem isn’t isolated to the USA — if the precedent is set, others may follow. It might not happen tomorrow or in a year, but maybe in 3–4 years when a girl you know has an unwanted pregnancy, you might find that she can’t get the care she needs because her rights to decide what happens to her body have been taken away.
